Simbiatu "Simbi" Abisola Abiola Ajikawo, born and raised in North London to Nigerian parents, has always believed in the power of storytelling. From a young age, she used music as a canvas to paint her truth—capturing the highs, lows, and complexities of life as a young Black woman.
Despite starting as an independent artist in a heavily commercialized industry, Simz carved her path with authenticity and raw talent. Her breakthrough album, Sometimes I Might Be Introvert, not only earned her critical acclaim but also won the prestigious Mercury Prize in 2022.
What makes Little Simz remarkable isn’t just her ability to rap with poetic precision but her fearless approach to addressing themes like identity, mental health, and societal expectations. She continuously challenges stereotypes and uses her platform to uplift others, often highlighting the need for more representation of Black women in creative industries.
Beyond music, Little Simz has also made her mark as an actress, starring in the Netflix series Top Boy, further proving that her talent knows no bounds.
PS: She's my favourite rapper.
